Catching up on Prom Dream Alumnae

Mercedes Cook

The Bessie Morris Foundation is so happy to announce the graduation of Mercedes Cook from USC with a bachelor's degree. You go girl. You look phenomenal in your cardinal and gold.

Mercedes is one of the original recipients of the 2005 Prom Dreams Program and the Book Grant award. She has volunteered her time with the Bessie Morris Foundation to help mentor our past young ladies with college survival tips. She has proven to be a great asset to us. She will always be special to the foundation and we are wishing her many blessings during her journey in life. We are pleased to announce that she will be attending graduate school at UCLA majoring in law.

Letisia Alvarado

Letisia Alvarado is a Bill Gates Scholarship recipient doing her thing with style at the University of California Berkeley. Letisia is currently a senior with a double major in Social Welfare and Psychology. She volunteers her time with the Berkeley Free Clinic, a non-profit community clinic that believes in providing health care for everyone regardless of race, gender, age, income or any other characteristic. She is responsible for two sections in the clinic, the Information Resource Collective and the Peer Counseling Collective. Also, she volunteers at the Alameda County Social Services Agency in Oakland through the Language Access Program, where she translates all written material, as well as interpreting during home visits, team decision meetings and phone calls. She further states that she is planning to apply to graduate school in pursuit of obtaining a master's degree in Social Work this fall.

The Bessie Morris Foundation is so happy for Letisia and we wish her the best.
